Public Statement: Marijuana Abstinence – Exhibit M
Public Statement – Exhibit M
Statement of Marijuana Abstinence
Prepared by: Janice Coffey
Press-safe, web-posting edition (public, redacted version).
Purpose of This Statement
This public-facing statement is issued to clarify and correct the record regarding my position and personal history relating to marijuana. It is intended for open publication, community awareness, and media accuracy.
Official Statement of Abstinence
I, Janice Coffey, publicly affirm the following:
- I do not use marijuana.
- I have not used marijuana.
- Any claim or rumor implying marijuana use is false.
Health-Related Context (Redacted)
I have a longstanding personal medical sensitivity to cannabis exposure. All specific medical data, dates, and providers have been intentionally redacted from this public edition to protect my private health information. Abstinence is both a personal practice and a medical necessity.
Public Policy Context
This issue arises within a changing national policy environment. In 2024, the United States Senate advanced bipartisan legislation titled the Dismantling Outdated Obstacles and Barriers to Individual Employment (DOOBIE) Act, aimed at preventing certain agencies from using marijuana-related assumptions as grounds for adverse decisions in employment or clearances. This broader context underscores why public accuracy and evidence-based treatment of cannabis-related issues matter.
Concern Over Public Mischaracterization
False assertions involving drug use can damage professional reputation, community standing, access to housing and services, and personal dignity. Because such allegations in my case have no factual basis, I am issuing this statement to prevent misinformation from spreading.
Affirmation
I affirm that this public version is true to the facts and appropriately redacted for public release.
Signed,
Janice Coffey
